Staff Spotlight: Julie
Team Newhouse
Championing Survivors Through Community and Connection
Julie’s journey with Newhouse began in May 2024 as an intern, where she supported volunteer work. What she thought would be a short-term role unexpectedly became the start of a career she’s now deeply passionate about. By September 2024, Julie officially joined the team full time, and is now our Development and Events Manager!
In her role, Julie plays a big part in orchestrating our three signature events—the Imagine a Day Gala, Worthy Pop-Up Bar, and New Day Breakfast—while also managing fundraising and community outreach efforts. For her, these aren’t just events. They’re opportunities to share Newhouse’s mission, rally community support, and raise critical funds for survivors. In fact, she’s incredibly proud to be part of a team that raised nearly $1.5 million in 2024—funds that go directly to supporting the brave survivors we serve.

Julie’s connection to this work runs deeper than her professional path. At 13, her family endured verbal and financial abuse from her mother’s partner. At the time, she didn’t realize that what they were experiencing was domestic violence. Now, she knows that DV isn’t limited to physical harm—it can take many forms. “I support survivors to help break the cycle of abuse,” Julie shares, “so that hopefully there will be fewer girls who have to experience the things I did.”
That empathy shines through in her interactions with survivors. One of Julie’s favorite memories is from a collaboration with Kendra Scott, where she accompanied a survivor to design custom jewelry. That morning, the survivor had been approved for her dream apartment, and later chose amethyst stones to represent the healing she experienced at Newhouse. “She cried, I cried, the Kendra Scott employee cried—it was just a really special day,” Julie recalls.
When asked what she wishes everyone knew about domestic violence, Julie points to a powerful statistic: 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men will experience DV in their lifetime. She urges everyone to talk about domestic violence openly with friends and family, because awareness and conversation are key to breaking the cycle.
Her message to survivors is simple yet powerful:
“You are so much stronger than you know.”

Outside of work, Julie’s energy and creativity shine just as brightly. She’s a voracious reader (over 100 books a year for four years running!), loves musicals, yoga, natural history museums, and traveling. She’s also training for her second half marathon—proving once again that she’s a woman of many talents.
Newhouse is grateful for Julie’s heart, drive, and dedication to survivors. Through her work, she helps create a stronger community and a brighter future—one event, one conversation, and one connection at a time.
