Butterfly: Newhouse Staff Shine a Light
Stories
Clarencetta shines a Light on a client success story
My name is Clarencetta, and I’m a case manager at Newhouse. Recently, I’ve had the honor of walking alongside an incredible survivor during her healing journey. When she first arrived, she was overwhelmed with challenges, but step by step, she has rebuilt her life with strength and determination.
Together, we worked to connect her with a doctor in her insurance network, secure clothing and essential resources, and arrange transportation for appointments and medications when she didn’t have a car. With the support of her therapist, Ashlie, she found a safe space to heal, while our legal team made it possible for her to attend her daughter’s middle school graduation—a moment that meant so much to her. Laveeda, our Director of Children’s Services, has also been helping her strengthen her bond with her daughter and guiding them both toward a healthier relationship.
Through Newhouse’s support groups, she found community and a sense of wholeness again. I’ve seen her outlook on life shift—she’s regained her sense of purpose, hope, and confidence.
Today, she is preparing to move into her own place and working toward joint custody of her daughter. With the help of our legal team, she now has an order of protection and was even able to get her vehicle back. She is pursuing her passion for health, well-being, and fitness while working on her master’s degree in nursing. I am so proud to see how far she has come.
She told me, “I was once a caterpillar, and now I’m a butterfly. I can fly again.”

Newhouse has been more than a shelter for her—it has been a place of healing, growth, and new beginnings. It has been a privilege to witness her transformation into the strong, confident, and thriving woman she is today.
