Newhouse launches ‘Fathers for Change’ program to address domestic violence through early intervention

Early intervention is key in preventing domestic violence. That’s why Newhouse has launched our “Fathers for Change” program to address violence. KSHB 41 News reporter La’Nita Brooks spoke with Courtney Thomas, President & CEO, and Ryan Dupree, Chief Impact Officer and Fathers for Change Therapist about the launch of the new program.

Committed to Creating a Safer Community

At Newhouse, we don’t just help survivors, we’re focused on addressing early intervention methods to address domestic violence. The Fathers for Change program pairs participants with therapists to understand and address the trauma behind the violence caused. The program aims to target root causes of violent behavior, teach behavior modification, and break the cycles of abuse.

Last year, Kansas City, Missouri experienced its highest percentage of domestic violence homicides in 10 years. This program is committed to preventing the next victim by addressing those causing harm. The Fathers for Change program will help fathers find motivators for changing their behavior and breaking the cycle of domestic violence.

This program is about taking action and doing something that is different than the norm. Fathers can be referred to the program through the court system or via our community partners.

Survivors will always be at the center of our mission. The new Fathers for Change program expands our efforts to address the behaviors that cause harm. Instead of just responding after violence occurs, this program aims to prevent future abuse to help fathers make lasting changes to benefit them, their children, their partners, and future generations.
