Guiding Recovery with Compassion: Meet Ryan
Meet Ryan DuPree, our Vice President of Recovery Services and Community Partnerships. Ryan’s journey with Newhouse began in February 2023 when he joined us as a Recovery Counselor on a contract basis. Immediately, staff and clients could see his dedication and heart for the work, so we were very excited when he transitioned into a full-time leadership role in January 2025.
In his current position, Ryan wears many hats — from supporting recovery services to jumping in wherever he’s needed, including helping out in our early learning center. His core focus is on helping residents understand and modify behaviors that may have led to unwanted consequences in the past. It’s a vital part of recovery, and Ryan brings empathy, expertise, and encouragement to each interaction.
“The moment a resident begins to see even a fraction of the positive qualities I saw in them from our very first session — that’s when I know this work matters,” Ryan shared.
A passion rooted in empathy
While Ryan does not identify as a survivor himself, he lives by the belief that “everyone is in recovery from something.” That mindset fuels his connection with residents and deepens his empathy. Through his previous experience in recovery counseling, he’s found a deep passion for supporting those with the courage and perseverance to rebuild their lives after experiencing domestic violence.
When asked what he wishes more people understood about domestic violence, Ryan reflected, “Many residents have taken unneeded responsibility for the behaviors of others. I want people to know that you are not responsible for someone else’s actions — in any form of relationship.”
Moments that matter
One memory that has stayed with Ryan came during a group session, when a resident told him, “I have never had a positive male that I could trust in my life. I get that from you.” That moment, he says, is something he’ll carry with him forever.
His message to survivors: “The experiences that brought you to Newhouse didn’t happen overnight. Healing takes time too. Don’t quit five minutes before the miracle happens.”
A life filled with passion and purpose
Outside of work, Ryan enjoys playing video games with friends and collecting rare and elaborate board games. But his favorite way to spend time is with his five-year-old daughter.
Ryan’s passion for his work is clear in everything he does. He shares:
I’m truly appreciative to be able to work with the residents at Newhouse. The saying ‘do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life’ has become a reality for me here.”
We’re grateful for Ryan’s heart, leadership, and the many ways he shows up for our community every day.
