The National Day of Action (aka Purple Thursday) was Thursday, October 17, 2024. Why Do We Shine?

  • Domestic violence is a community health issue.
  • 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men will experience abuse at some point in their lives.
  • In 2023, 17,086 requests for help in the KC region went unmet due to a lack of resources.
  • By working together, we can stop the cycle of abuse, address the barriers that feed it, and create generational healing.

Shining A Light on Survivors at Newhouse

This year, we are literally shining a light on brave survivors at Newhouse. We held a photo shoot where survivors stood behind a purple curtain with a light shining on them as they shared different poses and words of wisdom.

We asked them “What would you say to someone who is facing domestic violence?” Below are four of the survivors sharing their advice as people who are currently healing from abuse, wanting others to know they are worthy.

“Seek help through therapy.”

[Gives a hug]

“Stay strong through the trials and tribulations.”

“It seems hopeless but believe in yourself and you can get out of it.”
